Public Apology Demanded from MP

David Rendel, Sue Farrant and Barry Norman discussing a new cinema in Newbury

David Rendel has been campaigning for Newbury's new cinema for years. Here he is discussing a new cinema with film critic Barry Norman.

In an open letter to Newbury's MP, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesperson, David Rendel, has demanded a public apology for the 2005 description of Newbury's new cinema project as "a massive misuse of public money".

"The contract for the new cinema signed by the Liberal Democrats in 2005 was sadly allowed to lapse by the new Conservative administration which took control of the council in May that year", commented David Rendel.

"But when they themselves finally signed a new contract more than two and a half years later, it turned out that the subsidy to which Richard Benyon was so bitterly opposed had been repeated in identical terms in the Conservative contract. However he has never criticized in any way the contract signed by his own party, which presumably means that he has changed his mind about whether the subsidy arrangements were justified".
