David Rendel has a unique reason for attending the 10th anniversary celebrations of the reopening of Greenham and Crookham Commons this morning at 11:00 am.
"I was privileged to be the sponsor of the very unusual "Private Bill" which enabled the Commons to be transferred back into public ownership", said Mr Rendel earlier this morning. "As a member of the opposition during my entire first twelve years in Parliament, it was a unique opportunity for me to pilot a bill through the House of Commons.
"I am not only delighted to be able to attend the celebrations, I like to think I played at least a small part in making sure that the Commons were preserved for future generations. That is something I shall be proud to tell my grandchildren, if I ever have any!"
