Figures from West Berkshire Council and across the country show that first-time voters have registered in their thousands. First-time voters, young and not-so-young, have registered to vote in their thousands as Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats have rejuvenated the political process in the UK.
Social networking websites Twitter and Facebook are alive with messages proclaiming "I agree with Nick", and responding to a Labour jibe in the Leaders' Debate by saying that "Nick got real".
Even school students are getting in on the act.
"Schools across West Berkshire are holding mock elections as teachers take the opportunity to engage the next generation of voters with a new kind of politics", said David Rendel yesterday. "It's fantastic that so many voters of the future are taking this opportunity to learn about how elections work.
"In one school, so many students wanting to be on the Liberal Democrat side that the teachers had to get some of them to go and help the Greens and the other groups in order to even up the numbers."
"Liberal Democrats plan to scrap the tuition fees that weigh down university students with a burden of debt," Mr Rendel continued. "The school students of today are the university students of tomorrow, and we need to ensure that they start their working lives without this millstone around their neck.
