LAMPING MUST BE SUBJECT TO PROPER SAFETY RULES

12.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 18th Oct 2004

David Rendel MP intervened during today's Home Office Questions to press Ministers to ensure that lamping is subject to adequate safety measures.

Commenting, he said:

"The use of rifles to control the fox population may well increase following a ban on hunting. Steps must be taken to ensure that lamping is only carried out by people who are trained and competent to carry it out safely and effectively."
