RENDEL BACKS BID TO REGULATE PRIVATE PARKING FIRMS

5.17.30pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 22nd Mar 2005

David Rendel MP is backing new legislation to regulate the activities of private parking companies.

The Private Parking Enforcement (Regulation) Bill is a Liberal Democrat initiative, co-sponsored by Mr Rendel, which seeks to prevent unlicensed firms from imposing unfair parking charges or using intrusive enforcement methods.

The Bill was introduced in the House of Commons today.

Commenting, Mr Rendel said:

"It is extraordinary that there is no licensing or regulation of companies, who nevertheless have the power to impose parking fines. There has to be protection for motorists to make sure that parking rules are not abused by either side."
