IT Training Closure Disaster for Newbury

10.18.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 21st Jun 2006

ITNow is threatened with closure later this year after the withdrawal of funds by the Berkshire Learning and Skills Council.

"Given the demand amongst local businesses for basic IT skills, it is no surprise that there is still a high level of demand for the training provided by ITNow", commented Newbury's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson, David Rendel.

"Two of my assistants have used this training in the past, and I myself sampled a course in late 2004. At a time when Newbury's economy is weakening, with a number of firms making redundancies, IT training is more important than ever.

"I have therefore written to Martin Lamb, the Executive Director of the Berkshire Learning and Skills Council to urge him to reverse this disastrous decision."
