Extra Racecourse Traffic Concerns

2.48.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 25th Jul 2006

Concerned residents from Greenham and South East Newbury have been contacting Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson, David Rendel, about the massive housing and hotel development proposed by the racecourse. "The main worry seems to be the likely increase in traffic in what is already a very congested area", says Mr Rendel.

"People are telling me that they do not think there is any point in going to their MP, as he has already declared publicly that he is in favour of the scheme. But they are aware that I

know the area and its problems well, having lived there for 20 years."

"Now it seems that the developers are trying to rush the planning permissions through before the local people have been properly consulted. The residents feel that no permission should be granted at least until clear answers have been produced as to how the expected huge increase in traffic levels can be accommodated on the Queens Road area, Kings Road, Hambridge Road, and the A4."

"They also want to know what other facilities such as schools and medical facilities will be provided for the 5,000 or so new residents."
