David Rendel

Good News for West Berkshire

9.22.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 11th Aug 2006

"The new Liberal Democrat tax proposals, launched today, will be good news for West Berkshire", commented David Rendel, the local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson.

"At last year's General Election, our tax proposals were too complex. This allowed our opponents to pretend that they would make people in West Berkshire worse off, when in fact most people would have been better off.

"Our new proposals to reduce income tax for all bar the highest earners, to do away with the hated Council Tax and to make up the difference with higher environmental taxes are fairer, simpler and greener than either of the other two parties' proposals. The great contrast with the Conservatives in particular is that they claim to want to reduce pollution but deny they will impose any increase in taxes on pollution.

"The public will not be fooled by a party which ducks the tough decisions".
