In line with his longstanding support for a new Cinema for Newbury, David Rendel, local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson, will today (Saturday at 2:15pm for 2:30) attend the first performance of "And When Did You Last See Your Father?" on the opening day of "Screen One". "Screen One" is a new venue for filmgoers which has been created out of the room at the top of the Corn Exchange. Mr Rendel is determined to attend a film there on opening day as a celebration of the arrival of the first new venue for films in West Berkshire since the Corn Exchange first showed films in the main auditorium."As one of the prime movers of the campaign to reopen the Corn Exchange as an Arts Centre in the early 1990s," said Mr Rendel, "I was especially proud to learn that the opportunity has been taken to open another screen in the Corn Exchange at a time when the Council has so woefully failed to get the new cinema built. What a contrast between the delay and prevarication by the Council and the speed with which the Corn Exchange have brought this new venue into operation. I congratulate all those involved."
