Rendel in the Clear on MP's Expenses

8.53.10pm GMT Fri 22nd Jan 2010

Sir Thomas Legg has written to David Rendel (Newbury's MP from 1993 to 2005) to confirm that "Mr Rendel has no issues" in relation to his MP's expenses for the years 2004/5 and 2005/6.

As a result of the discovery that various MPs had claimed expenses incorrectly, Sir Thomas had been asked to review all expenses for all MPs in the House of Commons from 01/04/04 onwards, including those MPs who left the House after the 2005 General Election. Sir Thomas's review was against a set of rules much stricter than those in force at the time the expenses claims were made.

"I am delighted that Sir Thomas has found all my expenses claims to have been fully justified, even under his own much stricter rules", said Mr Rendel.
