Liberal Democrat Group Leader Jeff Brooks is urging people who have, or continue to experience problems with their waste collections to come along to tomorrow's meeting of the Council's watchdog, the Overview and Scrutiny Commission. Starting at 6.30pm in the Market Street Council Chamber, the public meeting will give residents a chance to hear from the Executive Member for Waste, the General Manager of Veolia and council officers about the roll out of the new collections.

Communities to the south west of Reading have been living in fear ever since a team of Government Planning Inspectors recommended that a development of 7,500 new homes should be permitted in the area, north of the M4. Yesterday's announcement from Government, rejecting this recommendation, was greeted with delight by local Liberal Democrats.

Lib Dem Waste spokesman Royce Longton has slammed the Conservative Council for the problems mounting up in the new waste collection service.

Following a stream of public criticism of the new waste collections supposed to be taking place around West Berkshire, Councillor Lee Dillon from Thatcham North is demanding to know what action Waste Chief Geoff Findlay intends to take to improve matters.

A meeting of West Berkshire Council last night saw a clamp down on planning applications being heard at a higher level than the district's area planning committees. The Council's leading Conservative Group abolished the right of any three Members of a planning committee to call for a decision to be reconsidered by the full council.

Shadow Finance spokesman David Rendel has slammed West Berkshire's ruling Conservatives following a crunch vote on making council tax concessions to those still forced to live upstairs in their homes following last July's flooding.

He wants WBC to act at once to deal with a Home that has sadly been found wanting in two consecutive inspections by CSCI (the Commission for Social Care Inspection).

Councillor Keith Woodhams has slammed a decision made by Conservative controlled West Berkshire Council not to use 20mph signs outside schools, giving the excuse that they are 'too tall'.

Councillor Jeff Brooks, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on West Berkshire Council, has slammed the Conservative administration for continuing to monopolise the key committee which should act to hold them to account for their actions.

Liberal Democrat Opposition Members were left in hysterics at last week's Executive meeting when the Conservative administration considered the district's risk register.

Local councillors representing residents of Northcroft Ward are leading a 'walk of discovery' this Saturday morning (26th April), to publicise the Walking Map of Newbury produced last year by the West Berkshire Partnership. A similar map of Thatcham's urban byways is currently being surveyed.

Lib Dem Leader Jeff Brooks has hit out after the latest satisfaction survey results reveal that activities for teenagers and levels of congestion continue to be among the top issues West Berkshire residents want to see improved in the district.

Local Lib Dems are calling for people in West Berkshire to get green and leave the car at home this Thursday on 'Walk to Work Day' (24th April). Shadow Transport spokesman Councillor Keith Woodhams is asking people to think about how they get to work and how they could be greener when they are commuting. Keith will be walking from his home in Thatcham to his Council meetings in Newbury on Walk to Work Day.
